Why Resistance Training?

As we age Sarcopenia (age related muscle loss) affects everyone. Not only is muscle important to support and protect our joints but it also burns three times more calories than fat by speeding up the metabolism! So rebuilding your muscle will burn fat, and help avoid those joint problems or alleviate them and turn back the age clock by helping you get more toned.

Ladies - resistance training will also trim and tone you without making you look like Arnold Schwartzaneger.

Why Dumbbells?

A good dumbbell workout can meet every fitness goal you have. Whether it is increased strength, endurance or fat loss.  A properly structured dumbbell workout can also provide benefits that other workouts cannot.   Some of the advantages are:

• Free range of movement allowing for natural motion
• Utilising your stabilizer muscles which support the growth of larger muscles
• Allows both sides of the body to be exercised equally, so you build in
symmetry
• Requires more body control than other methods
• Helps to improve your balance

The Workout

Everything we do has your health and safety in mind.  So like any properly structured exercise regime you will be given advice on correct form – how to do the movements to get the best from them and not hurt yourself. You will start with light weights and progress to heavier weights when you feel you are ready.

Each routine, which is typically 3 to 4 minutes long, is specifically designed to work different muscle groups and within the hour’s workout you will exercise all the major muscle groups. When you start you will complete 10 to 11 routines building the number up as you progress. The workout is done rhythmically to music which not only adds to the enjoyment but research shows that music helps you put in that extra effort.

This workout is complemented by our health programme.
